Reusable gift wraps and bags
“We are dedicated to refashion furoshikis to the modern European lifestyle by teaching the wrapping methods and by developing a range of contemporary designs.”
ModernFuroshiki.com is run by Szilvia and József Juhász, a Hungarian couple living in Ireland. Szilvi brings her creativity to this project. She has tried herself before in stained and Tiffany glass, needlework, decoupage, soft toy making, beads, etc.
“I still remember the first time I heard years ago that we are not supposed to wrap in paper to save trees. I like to think of myself as an environmentally conscious person, yet my first thought was: „That’s a silly idea… I love beautiful gift wrap!” This surely came from the little devil sitting on my left shoulder. Luckily there is someone on the right one too so later Christmas 2007 I came up with the idea to wrap in fabric. And I guessed I wouldn’t be the first one. So I googled it and found out about furoshikis.
My fascination for furoshikis still grows and I want to be part of making them popular in Europe by adopting this ancient Japanese tradition to our modern European lifestyles.”
Józsi unites his profession (IT) and his hobby (photography) in this project. “ModernFuroshiki.com came handy as an excuse to fit up my home studio!”
